Network For Young Artists
1800 Fredericksburg Road, Suite 119
San Antonio, Texas, Texas 78201
210-226-5611
Texas Born & Raised In San Antonio, the Network for Young Artists is providing youth with opportunities to develop and showcase their singing, dancing, and musical instrument talents. NYA, founded by Terry Lowry, an educator and coach from San Antonioos Edgewood School District, is in its tenth year of service and has grown from 30 to over 250 youth. These youth range in age from 4 to 20 years of age and members reside from San Antonio and the surrounding areas.
Music + Education = Success NYA's believes that youth who have the opportunity to participate in the arts will benefit from performances and will gain self esteem through the support of members who have a similar musical interest. Experience shows that youth who develop a stage presence in the performing arts usually become leaders in school and professional environments. NYA emphasizes both performing arts and school academics. NYA members are required to maintain high scholastic standards in order to remain an active member.
Family Commitment & Affordable Participation NYA requires that at least one parent be with the child at all times including meetings, practices, and public performances. This requirement creates an extended family environment and a mutual support group that transcends the organization. In addition, parent participation ensures the security of members in public venues. Family involvement is the key to NYAAs success. NYA parents volunteer for a variety of tasks including cleaning the studio, transporting and running the sound system at events, and fundraising activities-- whatever it takes to keep NYA working.
Lessons and Events NYA provides weekly voice, dance, guitar, percussion and mariachi lessons. NYA arranges venues for youth to display their skills. NYA has participated in numerous San Antonio events, including the Holiday River Parade, Tejano Music Awards, Illuminaria, St. Mary's Oysterbake, and the Rock-nRoll Marathon. Additionally NYA has performed at various community service venues to include the Komen Race for the cure for the past five years and at numerous local school activities. NYA has also procured all music talent and has provided entertainment for the City of San Antonio Houston Street Fair and Market for the past 3 years. As a result, NYA has received numerous requests for membership information and for performances. Music Styles In addition to lessons and performances, students are afforded the opportunity to experiment with various music genres to include Country, Pop, Tejano, Mariachi, Gospel, Hip-hop and Oldies. NYA members are restricted from performing music that contains offensive lyrics or conentations. Members are allowed to select their personal style of music for the 50-100 public and private performances. NYA members perform to audiences in excess of 500,00 people annually.
